Why forced air heaters are so popular?
A survey amongst 100 households in the North America reveals that about 98 of them used forced air heating systems. There is a reason and probably, there are many reasons due to which forced air heaters are so popular across the world.
These heaters work due to their reliability and versatility apart from the ease of installation. People who have used these forced air heaters in their homes claim that these heaters are easy to install and also helps them save a lot of energy, as these heaters work on the principle of cooling as well as heating, simultaneously.
How do forced air heaters, work?
These heaters pull air from the rooms and push them through a cold-air duct connected to the burner system of these heaters. In these burners, the actual heating activity takes place and finally, the hot air is pushed through the hot-air duct into the rooms.
The thermostat of the furnaces automatically turns down a level, when the air temperature drops. This regulates the gas valve in the furnace, which further ignites the burners by providing fuel. Once the burner is ignited, the process of converting cold air to hot air begins, finally ending in the hot air being rushed out of the hot-air duct.
The benefits of using forced air heaters
- You can use natural gas, coal, wood or even electric heater to provide the ignition in the furnace. This allows these heaters to work as very flexible units.
- The ease of installation coupled with the low cost of these heaters make the forced heaters one of the most popular heaters. They are certainly more cost-effective than any other heater around.
- Apart from heating and cooling the rooms, these heaters can also be used to filter, humidify and dehumidify air. This allows the forced air heaters to work as an excellent moisture control device.
The disadvantages of using forced air heaters
Using forced air heaters also has its own set of disadvantages, some of which are explained below
- High maintenance – Though the initial setup costs for these heating systems are pretty low, owners of these heating units also have to spend a lot of money to regularly maintain them.
- Some duct work required – These heating systems would need some ductwork to be installed in the walls to ensure the process of heating and flushing out hot air to the rooms, is completed.
- The furnace fans also need to be maintained – Sometimes, the furnace fan may emit a lot of sound, and importantly, the moving air may carry some allergens. Individuals should take care of these aspects too and regularly maintain the furnace fans.
Bottom-line – Besides the minor disadvantages of using forced air heaters, one thing is for sure – These heating systems are very effective heating units. Installing these systems in your home means you are saving on a lot of energy. Considering the fact that some of these heaters work on alternative sources of energy, your energy bills could also be in control.
